The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at the residence of Karwar–Ankola MLA Satish Krishna Sail in connection with an ongoing investigation linked to alleged financial irregularities in the mining sector. The searches also reportedly extended to properties associated with mining entrepreneurs in Vijayanagar and Hosapete.
ED officials conducted searches as part of an investigation into suspected financial transactions connected with mining-related activities. Investigators are examining documents, financial records and other material that could help establish the movement of funds and possible links between individuals and businesses under scrutiny.
Satish Sail, who represents the Karwar–Ankola constituency, has previously faced legal proceedings related to illegal iron-ore mining and transportation. In 2024, a special court sentenced him to seven years in prison in an illegal mining case, although subsequent legal proceedings affected the status of the conviction.
The latest searches do not by themselves establish wrongdoing. ED searches are part of an investigation, and the allegations against any individual must ultimately be established through evidence and due legal process.
The action has attracted considerable political attention in Uttara Kannada, particularly because Sail is a prominent elected representative from the district. Searches at mining-linked properties in the Vijayanagar–Hosapete region indicate that investigators are examining a wider network rather than focusing solely on one individual.
Further details are expected as the ED examines the material seized during the searches and determines whether additional action is warranted.
