The Forest Department has reportedly recovered around 110 acres of forest land in Sirsi taluk of Uttara Kannada district following directions from the High Court. The action is part of efforts to protect forest property from unauthorised occupation and ensure compliance with legal orders.
Officials carried out the recovery process after examining land records and the status of the disputed property. The move is expected to strengthen protection of forest land and prevent further encroachment in the ecologically sensitive Sirsi region.
Sirsi and surrounding areas form an important part of Uttara Kannada’s forest landscape, with extensive evergreen and semi-evergreen forests supporting wildlife, water sources and local communities. Unauthorised occupation and land-use changes can put additional pressure on these ecosystems.
The High Court’s intervention highlights the importance of protecting government and forest land through proper legal procedures. The Forest Department’s action also sends a strong message that encroachments on protected land can face legal scrutiny and eviction proceedings.
Authorities are expected to continue identifying and addressing similar cases in accordance with court directions and applicable forest and land laws. Such measures are important for safeguarding Uttara Kannada’s forests, biodiversity and natural resources for future generations.
