The long-pending Sirsi–Haveri National Highway project has become a growing source of inconvenience for commuters, with incomplete construction, damaged stretches and inadequate road-safety arrangements causing daily difficulties for motorists. The highway is an important connection between the Malnad region and northern Karnataka, carrying passenger vehicles, buses and commercial traffic. However, delays in completing construction work have left commuters navigating uneven road surfaces, diversions, dust and congested sections. During the monsoon, the problems become more severe. Rainwater can accumulate on unfinished stretches, while mud and loose material can make driving particularly difficult. Poor visibility caused by dust during dry periods and slippery surfaces during rainfall further increase the risk of accidents. Local residents and regular commuters have called for faster completion of the remaining works and better temporary arrangements until the project is fully finished. Proper barricading, warning signs, drainage, lighting at vulnerable locations and regular maintenance are essential to improve safety. The highway’s incomplete condition is also affecting travel time and the movement of goods between Sirsi and Haveri. For businesses and residents who depend on the route, prolonged construction has become more than a temporary inconvenience. Completing the project within a clear timeline, maintaining safe traffic movement during construction and addressing damaged sections should therefore remain priorities. A properly finished Sirsi–Haveri highway could significantly improve connectivity, trade, tourism and regional development across Uttara Kannada and neighbouring districts.
